Built in Sheffield’s historic old town, the development is a modern complex converted from a two storey urban warehouse block. It comprises of 29 luxury studios ideal for both students and young professionals. The high-end apartments are typically around 31.8 square metres and are fitted and furnished to the highest level, whilst boasting of a fully fitted en-suite with a contemporary shower. The development was built with eco-friendly features which lower energy bills and enhance rental income. It proved to be a very popular development with the units completely sold out within two months.
In the heart of Sheffield City Centre, residents can enjoy local amenities which include a diverse range of bars, restaurants and shops only a few minutes away on foot. The supertram is under 200 metres from the site which provides easy access to other areas of the city whilst Sheffield Train Station, less than a 15 minute walk away, has direct links to major cities such as London and Manchester.
This was a great project to work on but one that came with a set of very specific challenges. Not only was there the site’s past, which everybody was determined had to be preserved, but there was also the fact that we had to create two family homes in what is actually quite a small space. We came up with a design that filled all Nik and Jon’s wishes, a brilliantly contemporary pair of properties that also pays tribute to the story of the site and, through the use of materials, to the bigger story of Sheffield’s industrial heritage.
The 80-metre dam, which once provided power for the corn mill, has also been cleaned and restored, providing a haven for kingfishers and other wildlife.
